With each passing day it seems that there is a new ‘favourite’ to become the next head coach of AC Milan and this time it is Paulo Fonseca, a report claims.

According to the latest from Calciomercato.com, Fonseca is moving forward in the race to take over from Stefano Pioli. The Portuguese coach is a concrete idea that was born in the spring and – thanks to the contacts over the last few days – could become something more.

Geoffrey Moncada is working personally to define the details of the agreement, having always been an admirer of the former Roma man and a believer that he could do something good with Milan.

Fonseca has been mentioned alongside Sergio Conceição and Mark van Bommel for a few weeks now it seems. The Porto coach, strongly endorsed by Jorge Mendes, does not fully convince the management while for the Dutchman it stopped at some preliminary contacts.

Now the Rossoneri must wait for the end of the Ligue 1 season to conclude the negotiation with Fonseca and to beat the competition from Marseille, who already have an agreement in principle with him.

The profile that Milan want has been clear for some time: a coach who is familiar with young players, who offers attacking football but who also has experience. Fonseca responds, at least in principle, to all requirements.

This is why – barring last-minute second thoughts – he seems increasingly destined to take over from Pioli. In the next few days more will become clear.
