Cleveland Browns Waive Offensive Tackle Days After Claiming Him
Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Browns are looking to make another postseason run in 2024. Their 2023 run was shocking for many reasons, one of them being the number of injuries they sustained. One position that was hit hard was offensive tackle. The team lost their top three tackles and had to sign people off the street to play. Despite this, they still made the playoffs. To try and increase the depth at the position, they claimed Kellen Diesch off of waivers. However, he was not with the team long after they had waived him days later due to a failed physical.

Cleveland Browns Waive OT Kellen Diesch

Kellen Diesch is a 6-foot-7 tackle out of Arizona State. His weight has drawn concerns, but the Cleveland Browns decided he fit the profile of a player they could develop. After last year’s injury issues, they wanted to make sure they had some depth in the position. It is unclear what the team doctors uncovered. It is interesting that Diesch was waived by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday, but not because of a failed physical.

The Cleveland Browns will have to look elsewhere for depth at the tackle position. While everyone is focusing on the Steelers, Ravens, and Bengals, the Browns will not be easy to beat in 2024. Ultimately, their success comes down to one person, Deshaun Watson.

Deshaun Watson Is The Key To The 2024 Season

It may seem like an obvious take to say the quarterback is the key to success but the Cleveland Browns case is different. They traded a king’s ransom to get Watson in the building. He has not produced anything close to even a Pro Bowl-worthy season. There is only so much the defense of this team can do. If they are going to topple the AFC’s elite, they will need to have a top-half-of-the-league offense.

The Cleveland Browns hope the injury bug stays away this year. Every year, one team seems to always have the worst injury luck and last year was Cleveland. They went 11-6 last year despite all of the turmoil. If the team can get quality play out of Deshaun Watson and Myles Garrett has another dominant season, we could see the Browns take the AFC north crown in 2024.
